Fiber Arts – Intro to Knitting week

oh knitting – how you scare some people. that may be why half the class was out this week! jk. So, this week students got lots of one-on-one knitting instruction – and a couple people started purling too! there are just a few terms you really need to know – needle sizes, gauge, knit, purl, and a couple movements like casting on, knit, purl and cast off. A few daring students tried the purl stitch, and really enjoyed it. I think b/c it gives a pattern change every time it is used! Casting off was easy for everyone, and seeing their little square creations was exciting.

Homework this week is to cast on, knit a square of 10 stitches+ and cast off.

Knitting, like anything, requires practice, consistently, to be excellent.

But hey, if you have fallen off the knitting wagon, remember it comes back to you like riding a bike, so grab some needles, a ball of yarn, and secret away to a hammock for a bit 🙂
